Innovative Strategies

Online Data Access
The SAC works to provide access to many sources of criminal justice data in the state through its Criminal Justice Data Book, online query systems, and downloadable data. CrimeStatsOnline provides annual county-level data for sixteen data series - including arrests, Superior Court filings, and prison and jail admissions - in table, chart, and map formats. The state's Uniform Crime Report (UCR) and National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data are also available online. Although these data are only currently available at an aggregate level, the SAC website provides an easy-to-use, single point of access that meets the needs of many data users.

Criminal Justice Consortium
Over the last eight months, the Washington SAC has been convening representatives of the state's criminal justice-related agencies to discuss interagency data sharing. The goal of this group, the Criminal Justice Consortium, is to promote collaboration among government agencies in sharing and using criminal justice data and to develop data governance strategies for improving data availability and standards across partner agencies.

The following agencies are represented in the consortium:

  • Washington State Patrol
  • Administrative Office of the Courts
  • Department of Corrections
  • Department of Social and Health Services - Juvenile Justice and Rehabilitation Administration
  • Washington State Institute for Public Policy
  • Caseload Forecast Council
  • Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs
  • Washington State University
  • Central Washington University
